RE Intent

Here at Samuel Cody, we follow the Living Difference syllabus for religious education (RE), the agreed syllabus for Hampshire.  Living Difference affirms our commitment to an education that takes seriously the importance of children exploring their own lives in relation to what it can mean to live with a religious orientation on life, as well as other ways of living life, including those informed by a non-religious perspective.  RE at Samuel Cody intends to play an educational part in the lives of children as they come to speak, think and act in the world.

Our RE teaching seeks to cover Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism.  Christianity is taught in every year group, with Christmas and Easter given fresh treatment each year, so developing children’s learning in a progressive way.  Teachers are given flexibility to choose a second faith to cover with their classes, where appropriate, based on national curriculum guidelines.  RE lessons aim to support Ofsted outcomes, along with spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) and British values, whilst developing critical thinking and a growth mindset.
