Drama at Samuel Cody Specialist Sports College is a highly valued activity. The pupils, through their involvement with Drama, have the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills, which can be generalised into their everyday lives. In Keystage 3, pupils have one lesson per week and when appropriate, it can be offered as an option in Keystage 4. Drama has helped to foster a wide range of talent in the School, which is regularly demonstrated in the School productions that have been staged.
In the past, the School had a strong commitment to the Shakespeare for Schools Festival, but now focuses on staging School productions which cater for the needs and interests of a much wider group of pupils.
The School produced its first pantomime in 2017 based on the story of ‘Mother Goose’. It is planned to stage ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ for Christmas 2018. In addition to this production, there are many opportunities for pupils to showcase their talents using dance, music and the spoken word.
